Abstract
Seismic stratigraphy using sequence-stratigraphic
concepts as developed by Vail and others has been
applied at Soekor to provide an overall
stratigraphic framework for the Bredasdorp Basin.
This method was first applied to the drift
succession and later to the synrift succession. The
synrift has been broken down into 4 sequences and
the drift into 21 Sequences. In the synrift
succession the greatest reservoir potential is in
the transgressive and early highstand tracts whereas
in the drift succession the greatest reservoir
potential is in lowstand tracts. The distribution
of source rocks and regional sealing shales can also
be predicted using the seismic-stratigraphic framework.
