Abstract

A group of students from the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates did a geophysical investigation in Al Jaww Plain located in Al Ain to the east of the UAE. The objectives of the investigation were to locate a thrust fault and identify the extension of the Semail Ophiolites by using gravity and magnetic techniques. The motivation behind the work was to confirm the existence of the thrust fault since previous seismic studies were not able to do so because of their poor quality data. Thus, by using less expensive but accurate advanced devices of gravimeters and magnetometers we were able to achieve the objectives.
