Abstract

This paper aims to delimit the bodies of water through a system of supervised classification using, as a tool, the fuzzy logic aiming at a classification of classes whose boundaries are not rigid, which approximates the results of real data. As a tool for calculating the limits of the target object, i.e, water bodies, we used mathematical morphology by applying an edge detector. The fuzzy system will be implemented in LANDSAT TM band 3 (blue), band 4 (green) and band 5 (red), as image processing technique for detecting the desired structures. The designed system can also be used to discriminate against other objects, such as forests and urban areas, may also be useful in studying changes in land cover.
