Abstract

A Side Scan Sonar survey was performed in an area of the shallow continental shelf of Rio Grande do Norte - Brazil with the aim to identify shipwrecks near a barrier reef known as Risca do Zumbi. This paper show the results of this research, where was possible to locate two shipwrecks. Several reefs were found around this area, indicating that the vessels probably collided before the wreck. From the identification of the local reefs, studies are initiated to verify the type of that substrate, which may witness an ancient coastline.
