Abstract

Since the last 20 years numerous marine geological and geophysical data from several margin segments have demonstrated that the continental margins lined up with major oceanic transforms zones yeld sedimentary, subsidence, deformational and crustal characters drastically different from those of standard divergent passive margins. These data and observations have progressively given birth to the concept of a specific type of continental margin, directly issued from transform rifting and subsequent transform motion: the transform (or sheared, or translational) margins.
