Abstract
Geophysical surveys, including seismic, ground penetrating radar (GPR) and resistivity, were carried out in 1995/96 in a test of methodsfor detecting subsurface cavities and groundwater variations in the karst terrain of the eastern Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. This area world-famous for its sinkholes (cenotes) and underground rivers. represents a natural laboratory for investigation of fresh water/salt water interactions in the highly porous subsurface.
