C035 STRESS FIELD PREDICTION USING 3D GEOMECHANICAL MODELS OF FAULT- CONTROLLED RESERVOIRS Abstract 1 Three-dimensional finite element models are used to predict the magnitude and orientation of tectonic stresses in fault-bounded reservoirs in particular the stress perturbations near faults. Depending on the orientation of the faults relative to the regional stress field the rock mechanical properties and the frictional strength of the fault itself substantial deviations from the regional stress field can be observed locally. Application to a data set from the Husum- Schneeren gas field in northern Germany illustrates the potential of the modeling approach. The study shows that
