Abstract

D018 MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY AS A RAPID PETROPHYSICAL TOOL FOR PERMEABILITY PREDICTION Abstract 1 Magnetic susceptibility measurements on core plugs are extremely rapid cheap and nondestructive. This paper demonstrates their usefulness as a new routine core analysis technique for inferring petrophysical properties that would conventionally be obtained from time consuming and expensive analyses. Magnetic susceptibility measurements of an entire oil well’s core plugs (a few hundred) can potentially be made in one day allowing rapid petrophysical appraisals to be made long before the conventional core permeability porosity and special core analysis data becomes available. The sign of the raw magnetic susceptibility
