Abstract

E033 ARE MULTI-COMPONENT VECTOR WAVEFIELDS FINALLY BECOMING A REALITY? OPENING ADDRESS Abstract 1 Multi-component seismic experiments started around forty years ago using rudimentary acquisition and processing tools. Slow but substantial advances in field techniques digital processing and interpretation now open the way to revealing the actual potential of multicomponent (MC) technology. Converted-waves (P-to-S on reflection) derived from MC measurements provide a convenient way to extract S-wave information. The additional Swavefields can be used to prospect in some areas where P-wave imaging fails or as a complement to P-wave lithology estimates. Further advancements in the method will be welcome in acquisition
