Abstract
F007 THERMAL HISTORY OF THE ALGARVE BASIN (OFFSHORE PORTUGAL) AND ITS IMPLICATIONS IN HYDROCARBON GENERATION Abstract 1 During the seventies and early eighties several oil companies carried out hydrocarbon exploration activities in the shallow offshore part of the Algarve Basin. The results of the drilling activities were disappointing showing few layers of source rock locally with significant TOC values but thermally immature. As the basin deepens into the deep offshore it is expected that the source rocks in this area have been exposed to temperatures high enough to generate hydrocarbons. To evaluate this possibility some pseudo-wells were built using petroleum
