Abstract
F025 THE EFFECT OF ORGANIC CONTAMINANTS ON THE SIP RESPONSE OF PERMO-TRIASSIC SANDSTONES Abstract 1 To investigate the effect of hydrocarbons on the complex electrical response of Permo- Triassic Sandstone small samples were contaminated with an aqueous phase organic fluid (methanol) a DNAPL (TCE) and an LNAPL (clean motor oil). Both in-phase and quadrature resistivities were measured over the frequency range 10 -3 - 10 +3 Hz. Results showed that methanol appears to inhibit polarization while the NAPLs slightly reduce polarization with some slow variation in response with time. Introduction The work of Olhoeft (1985) claimed that clay-organic reactions themselves
