Abstract

G007 ULTRASONIC TOMOGRAPHY IN CORES Abstract 1 This work presents a simulation study of ultrasonic tomographic experiments in core samples. The analysis aims at supporting the construction of an ultrasonic equipment to produce tomographic images of cores. Technical details of the equipment are analyzed and only the case of straight transmission rays is considered. Assuming an arbitrary grid simulation of a tomographic acquisition was done for a hypothetic rock sample with an initially adopted velocity model. Three alternative inversion techniques were tested and provided in general acceptable tomograms (i.e. the initial velocity model was closely reproduced). Nevertheless in case of
