P054 SPATIAL CHARACTERIZATION OF SHALES FOR NUCLEAR WASTE DEPOSITION Abstract Introduction 1 The radioactive waste disposal policy in the Federal Republic of Germany is based on the principle that all types of radioactive waste must be disposed of in deep geological formations. Because of the favorable properties of rock salt and the existence of thick rock salt formations in Germany so far most of the research in the field of radioactive waste disposal sites was focused on the study of the use of rock salt.
