P081 SHEAR-WAVE VIBRATOR APPLICATIONS FOR SHALLOW SEISMIC INVESTIGATIONS – SOME EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS 1 U. POLOM S. GRÜNEBERG W. RODE Leibniz Institute for Applied Geosciences (GGA) Stilleweg 2 D-30655 Hannover Germany Summary Shallow seismic shear-wave applications for velocity estimation and structure investigations are more complicated than using compressional waves. Hammer-blow sources show quite often poor resolution and wavelet quality especially when used for VSP and reflection seismic applications. Furthermore common vertical stacking technique does not work in the same manner and reduces the S/N ratio after some blows due to continuous damage of elastic properties in the near source environment.
