Abstract

Geophysical workstations are traditionally used only for seismic interpretation and subsurface mapping. The graphic capabilities of these systems, however, provide an environment conducive to resolving geological and reservoir engineering problems. This paper will generate a detailed geological interpretation of the AOSTRA Underground Test Facility reservoir in the Canadian Athabasca tar sands. It will further model the temperature distribution in the reservoir at different times during a steam flood, incorporating the geological interpretation to understand the means by which steam moves through the minor heterogeneties within the oil sand reservoir.
