Abstract

A sequence of seismic events was recorded by a network composed of five portable seismographs, together with the Caruaru station (CAD-01), within a period of 35 days from February 20 to March 26, 1991. These events are confined to a depth ranging from 2.5 to 7 km and the spatial hypocenter distribution shows a ENE-WSW trend. The focal mechanism solution indicatas a normal fault rupture striking 87°, with a dip of 21° S. The P axis is in accordance to the E-W regional stress field 01 postulated to the northeastern region.
