SEISMIC TOMOGRAPHY

Like in medicine or non-destructive testing tomography has now become a well established imaging tool. In reflection seismology it is used to image the velocity or the reflectivity of the earth particularly in surface, reservoir, borehole, and crosshole seismology. Originally based on ray theory it can now be developed from the wave equation as described by Huygen' s principle given in form of Kirchhoff's integral for acoustic and elastic media.
