Abstract

This paper presents a computing system named MAG88 to paleomagnetic studies. This system was developed in the Pascal language and in personal computer. After compiling, it takes up approximately 376 Kbytes of storage space. MAG88 covers practically all the analysis functions performed in paleomagnetic study. For that purpose all algorithms have been implemented that are needed to: 1) analyze magnetic remanence data obtained from samples by means oh highly sensitive magnetometers; 2) analyze populations of virtual geomagnetic poles (VGP's), paleomagnetic poles (PP's); mean magnetization directions and remagnetization planes; and 3) perform finite rotations of pp's and of previously digitalized continental contours.
