Abstract

The paper tries to provide a link between three concepts that emerged during the last two decades in electromagnetic induction studies: magnetotelluric tensor decomposition, electrical anisotropy in the lower crust, and mixing laws. Decomposition provides a tool for detecting electrical anisotropy in the crust. Mixing laws are used to explain the occurence of anisotropy by a special geometry of particular 2-phase systems.
