Mapping Fluid and Rock Properties Using Geostack - Case Histories and Future Developments

This is a review of studies carried out at Soekor using AVO inversion of seismic reflection data. The rock properties investigated are compressional or P-wave impedance (P-wave velocity times density) and shear or S-wave impedance (S-wave velocity times density). The method is briefly described, and examples of its application are reviewed. The use of nonhyperbolic moveout correction in the processing sequence is illustrated. Improvements in the application of the method are suggested.
