Abstract

Pan Orient Energy (POE) recognized that horizontal wells maximise fractures’ intercept, thus improving drainage area for oil recovery. However, production data indicated horizontal wells on standalone basis, cannot guarantee the optimum performance required. The negative impact of downhole inflow imbalance along the entire horizontal wellbore is much worse in fractured reservoir due to the high contrast in permeability between macro fractures, micro-fractures and the core matrix inflow. In order to provide an inflow-control defense system downhole, ICD’s application has been tested successfully in Bo Rang field and proved to normalise non-uniform influx to control water influx, thus optimising oil reciprocally.
