Abstract
Nowadays, gas hydrates are important alternative source of energy to other hydrocarbon-based energy sources. Determination of gas hydrates also has an importance because of the risks they introduce. At Western Black Sea, a BSR level indicating existence of gas hydrates in some seismic lines were observed in the collected seismic data between Akçakoca–Kurucaşile offshore Turkey in 1998. The purpose of this study is to verify the presence of BSR level and to estimate the seismic parameters of the medium. Within the scope of this purpose, seismic data processing is carried out specifically for the seismic data that BSR level is observed as the most prominent anomaly. After the data processing, AVO analysis is carried out on the formed CDP super gathers to estimate the seismic parameters of the medium that BSR is significantly identified. In AVO analysis, first order Zoeppritz approximations are used to get zero offset amplitude and slope values. Statistical distribution of the zero offset amplitude and slope values indicates that zerooffset amplitude values show more consistent distribution than slope values. Finally, seismic parameters of the medium are estimated by forward modelling.
