Abstract
A 3-D kinematic migration method is developed for the layered media with variable velocities in layers. The zero-offset traveltimes and the interval velocities obtained from CMP and borehole data are assumed to be known. The method is based on the integration of the suggested ray tracing system of the differential equations. The formulas obtained make it possible to derive the necessary initial conditions for the ray tracing system. To adjust Snell's low for the integration of the ray tracing system calculus of variations has been used. The migration method comprises the 2-D fitting the traveltimes, the interval velocities and the interfaces obtained in downward sequence. The method has been applied to interpretation of real CMP data.
