Abstract

The paper deals with the most appropriate variant of the CDP seismic exploration technique for
carrying out the regional works of federal significance. Efficiency of the technique for
investigating a geological section down to and including horizons of the upper mantle (the Moho
discontinuity) is demonstrated by an example of the regional Orenburg-Manych profile passing
along the marginal scarp in the inner part of the Pre-Caspian depression. The velocity
characteristics of the section are estimated for the basic lithologic-sratigraphic complexes,
including the strata confined between the Moho discontinuity and crystalline basement.
