Abstract

The goal of seismic interpretation is to detect possible structures which may contain hydrocarbon accumulations, illustrate their areal extend, and calculate their volumes. The geometrical expression of seismic reflectors is mapped in travel time and depth as a part of the conventional interpretation procedure. Many times, any attempt to understanding seismic amplitude variations puts extra value to interpretation. There are several quantitative techniques for this purpose such as post-stack amplitude analysis, offset dependent amplitude analysis, impedance inversion and seismic forward modeling (SFM). An example of SFM between described techniques is the subject of this study. By definition, SFM is the way of realization of previously defined geologic model. The simplest way of SFM is the generation of synthetic seismograms by using electric logs. Another common method is the generation of pseudo logs from seismic data and using them in further interpretation done where there is not enough well control. Basically, this is the case for the Oligocene sedimentary package in the Turkish Western Black Sea, where well penetration and related outcrop studies are substantially limited.
