Abstract
E-21 REVISITING NMOAGAIN? Summary D.GAJEWSKI andC. VANELLE Institute of Geophysics University of Hamburg Bundesstr. 55 20146Hamburg Germany The normal moveout (NMO) is afundamental concept in reflection seismics. The NMO is an important parameter for time processing like stacking or time migration. Wepresent ageneralized moveout formula thatprovides thefoundation foraunified timeprocessing ofreflection data. Thismeansthat thegeneralized NMO equation is valid for isotropic and anisotropic 3-D media regardless of the wave type (e.g. also for converted waves) and can be formulated for all shot-receiver geometries i.e. common shot or common midpoint. The generalized NMO equation is asuper-set of all existing NMO relations which are
