The NMO is an important parameter for time processing like stacking or time migration. Wepresent ageneralized moveout formula thatprovides thefoundation foraunified timeprocessing ofreflection data. Thismeansthat thegeneralized NMO equation is valid for isotropic and anisotropic 3-D media regardless of the wave type (e.g. also for converted waves) and can be formulated for all shot-receiver geometries i.e. common shot or common midpoint.
