Abstract

This report represents an initial effort to produce a systematic assessment of the Romania’s shale-gas resource base and it describes only the Paleozoic plays of the Moesian and Moldavian platforms. The methodology used to perform an initial assesment derives from the EIA Report (2011). The calculations clearly show that the resource potential of Romania shale-gas could be significant. Both the Moesian and Moldavian platforms may contain as many as five formations that exhibit shale gas potential, associated with the Lower Paleozoic. The mean estimations of the technically recoverable resources using U.S. analog situations amounts to 33 TCF (0.95 TCM).
