Abstract

Small scale geological targets, such as faults and karst caves, generate diffractions which are always in low energy level. Images of these geological targets may be covered by the images of strong reflections in conventional process, which makes it hard to identify these targets. However, these geological targets are often related to reservoirs. Therefore, it is better to separate diffractions and reflections before imaging. In this paper, we use the singular spectrum analysis (SSA) method to separate diffractions from the full wavefield. Diffractions differ from reflections in both kinematic and dynamic properties. Traditional methods for separation usually base on the kinematic difference. The method for separation based on SSA uses both of these differences. Numerical examples on synthetic data demonstrate the feasibility of this method.
