Abstract

Time alignment of PP-wave and PS-wave is a prerequisite to joint PP-PS interpretation, which is also a real challenge in view of differences between P-wave and converted wave in frequency, polarity, signal-noise ratio, etc. The paper presents a solution to PP-PS alignment through converting PS-time to PP-time with a time-shift correction factor volume derived from prestack simultaneous inversion and then corrected via matching synthetic seismogram of converted wave with real converted S-wave data. The approach has been used in joint PP-PS application with good results, demonstrating its feasibility and utility in practice.
