Abstract

Acquiring high shot density OBC data can be time consuming and costly. In this paper, we examine the potential for transferring simultaneous source technology developed for land acquisition to the marine environment. We show how such a survey could be designed and processed, the cost implications, and what impact such an acquisition has on the final product on both stack [and AVO data]. The analysis suggests that multi-source acquisition for OBC can yield almost identical results to traditional acquisition but with significantly shorter acquisition times, thereby reducing costs and significantly increasing the rate of acquisition.
