Abstract

One of the most important oil fields in the Putumayo basin SW of Colombia is the Cohembi field with excellent reservoir rock characteristics and a high potential of production in the upcoming years. The purpose of this paper is to show the reliability of using geostatistics of seismic properties to predict reservoir properties in areas that are not drilled yet. At first seismic properties were analyzed separated with the purpose of placing best productive wells. This methodology allowed discrepancies to appear when evaluating seismic properties separated. The seismic properties sometimes honoured the evidence found by wells drilled and sometimes they did not. Consequently the use of seismic attributes was not trusted at all on Cohembi field. Therefore a methodology was proposed in order to enhance reliability of seismic properties from the geostatistics point of view. The methodology proposed focus on finding either a linear or a polynomial regression from cross plots of seismic properties in order to find best possible combination of seismic properties that help in placing wells. The final multi attribute grid from the polynomial regression honored all wells with best reservoirs properties. This methodology proved to be useful on places of complex geology
