Unlocking Nigeria’s Gas Potential - The Uquo Field Case Study

The Uquo field, discovered in 1958, has remained un-developed up to recent years. Thanks to the Marginal Field program initiated by the Nigerian Government, Frontier Oil Ltd took over operatorship from Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria in 2003. This scheme aims at accelerating the development of the smaller oil and gas discoveries by indigenous companies. The first phase development of the Uquo field has been successfully completed with first production planned in Q1 2013. The gas will be delivered to two local power plants.
