Abstract

We present the first 3D field encoded-simultaneous-source full wavefield inversion (ESSFWI) on an Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) survey. The inversion was performed using an acoustic VTI model with fixed anisotropy parameters. ESSFWI achieves an order of magnitude speed up in computation time compared to conventional sequential-source FWI without degrading the inversion results. Reverse time migration using inverted P-wave velocities shows a substantial improvement in the seismic images over those obtained from initial velocities, especially in subsalt regions.
