The surface waves and their scattering in the near surface are a constant issue in seismic exploration as they hide body wave reflections. Strong efforts are made to find techniques to remove them both at the acquisition and the processing sides. Here we propose to use the flexibility of laboratory scale environment to test various near surface conditions and acquisition designs. We have especially study the cross-spread acquisition design as it is widely used in seismic exploration despite its drawbacks in scattered waves 3D FK filtering. Using high receiver density laboratory environment, we compared the cross-spread with the optimum common source acquisition design. It confirms that with the first one, a significant part of the scattered waves remains after 3D FK filtering. We propose a new iterative algorithm to decrease the remaining scattered energy. We get an improvement of up to 40 dB.
