Abstract

The random noise that is frequently remnant in post-stack seismic volumes can be detrimental to data interpretation. In this paper we introduce a commercially viable modified Non-Local-Means filter capable of discriminating between random noise and detailed geology. The effectiveness of the algorithm is illustrated by filtering a 3D post-stack dataset with the Non-Local-Means method and a contemporary technique, then comparing time slice, inline and coherency attribute displays from each.
