Why Scattered Wave Source-receiver Interferometry (SRI) May Out-perform Inter-receiver Interferometry

Abstract
In practical experiments, scattered (diffracted) wave energy has been observed to be better reconstructed by source-receiver interferometry (SRI) than by inter-receiver interferometry. We show that non-physical or spurious results of inter-receiver interferometry are transformed into physical events when convolved with other signals as prescribed by SRI. In general, SRI reproduces the correct kinematics, and even the correct dynamic waveforms of scattered waves in situations when severely limited source or receiver boundaries are available – when inter-receiver interferometry would fail. This complements two similar results that were observed to hold for reflected and refracted wave SRI.
