Abstract

New elastic properties (such as quasi-longitudinal wave velocity, difference between “quick” and “slow” quasi-transverse wave velocities and elastic anisotropy coefficient) of rock-forming clay minerals were obtained and their anisotropy was described. Also the angles of longitudinal normal (θр) and acoustic axes (θа) deviations from the directions of mineral symmetry elements were firstly calculated for most clay minerals and compared with good agreement to experimental data.
