Abstract
Kovel Uplifts territory is known as a prospective region for solid mineral resources (copper, phosphorites, etc). At the same time drilling of ca. 20 structural wells during last decades has revealed numerous oil and bitumen manifestations in the Paleozoic sediments. An analysis of all available geological and geophysical data testifies that Silurian sedimentary rocks are the most prospective for petroleum exploration in the area. Silurian sediments within Kovel Uplift can preserve commercial hydrocarbon fields on rather shallow depths, like in the Litynska prospect.
