Abstract

This study presents the analysis of poststack finite-difference time migration efficiency and accuracy on 2D synthetic section calculated for 2D geological model of salt tectonics, which is representative for salt structures in NW Poland. Main imaging tasks on this synthetic section such as the base of Rotliegend, the top and the bottom of the salt, steep faults and main dipping horizons are determined the evaluation of finite-difference method efficiency. These parts of synthetic section where FD migration is ineffective need more attention from the imaging on actual seismic section. Having knowledge about finite-difference migration efficiency on some places on synthetic data which may be ambiguous in interpretation, it is possible to obtain more accurate imaging results on actual seismic data.
