Geology and Industrial Heritage for a Sustainable Partnership between Local Communities, Universities and Industry

Modern Industry requires a committed participation in activities that are linked in Sustainable Development (SD), Stakeholder Engagement (SE) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), but in many such cases in Romanian cases, such activities meet an unprepared local territory that does not manage to keep up with the above-mentioned initiatives. To meet this issue, within the University of Bucharest - Faculty of Geology and Geophysics formed teams composed by geologists in order to find an opportunity to train students and prepare a local community for the interaction with the modern industry - by making accessible the geology, extraction operations, industrial heritage, local culture and geological topics that relate to the local communities to the local stakeholders - a first step in developing a industry friendly and geology friendly area. The study presented in this paper is based on the results obtained following the case study on the area of Buzau Land, one of the oldest oil-bearing production areas of Romania, with oil and gas extraction operations being still important to today's economy.
