Abstract

Summary

In this paper we obtained geological information about the areas of Floresta and Sirirí, to acquire new data for the structural, kinematic and provenance modeling of regional sections that are located in the Eastern Cordillera where Cenozoic sedimentation is syntectonic and exposed basement highs exist. With this information we made the tectonic evolution of each area. It was necessary to do a kinematic restoration based on mapping of each area where was plotted the deformed state cross section, thermochronological data (AFT, ZHe), vitrinite reflectance and petrographic data of geologic units in each area. Kinematic restitution in Floresta area results shows four different states restored in time. This section was built from the cartography of an area of 85 km2. To make the kinematic restitution of Sirirí area, we used new petrographic data of 23 thin sections from units in Sirirí, along with the mapping of this area, thus we took a structural section in a deformed state, which was restored as in Floresta, in four states.

From this comparison, we determined that the exhumation in the hanging wall of Soapaga fault in Floresta and the exhumation in the hanging wall of Labateca fault in Sirirí is contemporary and (Late Eocene).
