Abstract

This paper assesses the surface uplift by deriving a semi-analytical solution, which takes a realistic evolution of overpressures, advancing front of CO2 into account. This approach can take into account a moving front of immiscible fluids and a more realistic fluid pressure distribution. We employ this approach to investigate the surface uplift observed at In Salah. A good agreement in the temporal evolution and the magnitude has been found between the measurements and calculated results. Compared to finite element calculations, this approach can be considered as an alternative preliminary calculation tool for assessing the impact of various factors during CO2 injection.
