Abstract

Prestack depth imaging can be particularly difficult in complex geologies such as salt diapirs. Iterative velocity model updating and manual interpretation of these structures is time-consuming. Automatic detection of salt structures has been investigated but only for cases when the salt interface is well defined. However, in many cases, no such sharp boundaries exist. We therefore propose a selection of attributes designed to reveal texture differences between the salt diapirs and the surrounding geology. We also demonstrate how such attributes can be used for automatic segmentation of the salt structure.
