Abstract

Pressure increase during an injection operation for CO2 storage can greatly exceed the delineation of the storage complex. The EC CCS directive do not recommend standards for the pressure development outside the storage complex. In order to evaluate pressure development in that respect regional dynamic modelling can be effective. The paper outlines recommendations for regional pressure modelling and show results on how pressure can propagate much faster and wider that the extension of the CO2 plume and storage complex delineation. Further the use of pressure management through water production is discussed and shown to be a workable technique for pressure controlling undesirable high and fast pressure propagations.
