Abstract

E040 Imaging the Water Column Using Seismic Reflection Data R. Hardy* (Trinity College Dublin) S.M. Jones (Trinity College Dublin) & R. W. Hobbs (University of Durham) SUMMARY In regions of deep water exploration reprocessed conventional seismic reflection data yield spectacular images of differences in temperature and salinity (themohaline structure) within the water column at a spatial detail beyond that available from conventional oceanographic tools. In this paper we review the development of this recent technique and present the results of a preliminary study conducted offshore Ireland in the Atlantic waters of the Rockall Trough. Our initial study indicates that we
