Løseth (Statoil Research Centre) SUMMARY The response of a given subsurface resistivity structure depends on the interplay between the transverse magnetic (TM) and transverse electric (TE) modes. TM and TE mode decomposition of the marine electromagnetic field may in the future impact both the state-of-the-art acquisition processing and interpretation strategies for marine controlled source electromagnetic surveying. We show how electromagnetic gradiometers can be
