P241 Some Views on Chebychev Polynomials and Their Use in Seismic Interpretation T. Ottesen* (DONG E&P AS) SUMMARY For a limited seismic time window Chebychev polynomials provide a very good approximation to the seismic trace described by a unique set of seismic volume attributes. The polynomials are orthogonal making these attributes independent of each other and particularly suitable for cross-plotting and neural network analysis. In the orthogonal space defined by the Chebychev polynomials seismic traces can be regarded as points or vectors and a measurement of distance can be defined.
