Abstract

P261 Seismic Attenuation in a Von Karman Correlated Medium T.J. Browaeys* (Bureau of Economic Geology) & S. Fomel (Bureau of Economic Geology) SUMMARY Wave scattering by heterogeneities has the potential to explain attenuation in seismic surveys without using an arbitrary intrinsic mechanism. A heterogeneous medium is described using a von Karman autocorrelation function whith a fractal behaviour. The relevance of this autocorrelation model is shown for a 2-D anisotropic medium. A non linear inversion method has been developed for 1-D data and is validated on a synthetic Gaussian correlated noise. The model parameters are estimate from a VP well log
