Abstract

P321 Seismic Response of Fractured Media with Different Scales and Different Orientations Y. Rao* (Imperial College London) & Y.H. Wang (Imperial College London) SUMMARY Numerical modelling is a useful tool in the understanding of the important role of fractures in reservoirs and their effects on seismic wave propagation. In this paper we systematically investigate the effects of fracture scale and fracture orientation on the seismic response especially with a realistic reflection seismic geometry widely used in seismic exploration. When fractures are smaller than the wavelength they act as single scatters and generate secondary wavefields. When the size approaches the wavelength
