Abstract
This paper describes the numerical simulation of the use of continuous noise sources in seismic exploration where each source is orthogonal with all others if summed over a number of repeats of the signals. The orthogonal property allows a number of sources to operate simultaneously and continuously with the signal from each source being identified in the recorded signal at each receiver. The technique has been used to generate seismic recorda equivalent to those from short duration or impulsive sources. Continuous sources should have application in time lapse studies of reservoirs where small changes in the signal need to be detected.
